15th edition of IET Karmaveer Expo – India’s largest working model competition for engineers concludes in Nashikedit

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK’s largest professional engineering body in association with the Department of Electrical Engineering at K. K. Wagh Institute of Engineering Education and Research, Nashik, today organised the 15th edition of the IET-Karmaveer Expo. The working model contest and project exhibition expo witnessed participation from students of various engineering colleges across India. The expo encouraged students to implement basic engineering concepts to help solve complex, real-world problems in order to benefit the society.

‘IOT will play a key role in daily life’edit

Internet of Things (IOT) will soon play a key role in a person’s daily life, said AU College of Engineering principal Prof PS Avadhani. Speaking at a seminar on “IOT Sensor Enablement” organised by the department of instrumental engineering on Saturday, Prof Avadhani pointed out that IOT has become an enabler in technologies concerning every aspect of science. He said IOT has become a game changer in remote sensing, agriculture, geology and is a major technology booster in the fields of telecommunication, automotive and healthcare.

Digital transactions recede, threaten ‘Digital India’edit

The value of digital transactions nationwide declined marginally (1.5 per cent) to Rs 92.6 lakh crore ($1.4 trillion) in February 2017 from Rs 94 lakh crore in November 2016 ($1.42 trillion), according to representative data (provisional) on electronic payments released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The data do not cover all transactions across all banks. But, card payments data for four major banks, mobile banking figures for five banks and prepaid payment instruments (PPI, meaning mobile payment gateways such as PayTM and FreeCharge) data for eight non-bank issuers have been considered as representative for analysing trends in payments.

IREDA to give Rs 13,000 crore loans for renewable sources, including solaredit

Clean energy projects in the country can look forward to  loans to the tune of Rs 13,000 crore from Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (Ireda) in the next financial year. With the government planning to add 15-16 GW of clean energy projects, including solar and wind, there would be total credit market size of around Rs 65,000 crore. According to IREDA Chairman K S Popli, Ireda would be able to release around Rs 8,000 crore for these clean energy projects in country.

State-run Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) has deferred auction for the 1-gigawatt (GW) rooftop solar projects tender for the fourth time in the past three-four months, a move which has highlighted the complexities of the business. The bidding process for the largest ever rooftop solar tender in the country has now been extended to 17 April from 20 March, SECI said on its website.
