Government providing training to those seeking jobs abroad, says Sushma Swarajedit

The government is trying to remove all bottlenecks in providing training in skill development and communication to those seeking to work abroad, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today. She said the government issues emergency certificates to all such Indians whose passports have been taken away by their employers and tries to retrieve the passports.

Applications for engineering courses increase by 11 per centedit

THE NUMBER of candidates applying for engineering courses have shot up by almost 11 per cent this time compared to last year, the directorate of technical education (DTE) has said. The DTE has received a total of 3.85 lakh applications for pharmacy and engineering courses of which, 2.9 lakh candidates are eligible for admissions to engineering colleges. This year 30,000 more aspirants are eligible for admissions to engineering courses compared to last year when 2.6 lakh applicants had been considered.

Renewable energy: poor demand, weak utilities expose challengesedit

The gap between good intentions and execution is starkly evident in one area of the renewable energy sector. Capacity additions are gathering pace but 25 states (including Union territories) are lagging on their solar renewable purchase obligation (RPO) targets for the current fiscal year, according to research firm Mercom Capital Group. States have to procure a certain portion of their power requirement from renewable sources.
