TRAI proposes norms for machine-to-machine communicationsedit

Telecom regulator TRAI today came out with proposals on machine-to-machine communications that include a new kind of permit for companies keen on providing services for this new form of technology. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested to the Department of Telecom (DoT) that all existing operators should be allowed to provide connectivity for machine-to-machine services.

Renewable power, both solar and wind, is already cheaper than polluting coal-based power. The recent auctions of Rs 2.44/kWh (solar) and Rs 3.46/kWh (wind) did not have a single paisa of outflow from government finances. These are flat levelised costs for 25 years with no further revisions. This compares to NTPC’s current average cost of thermal power of Rs 3.20/kWh, which may vary over the years depending on how coal prices fluctuate.

Tariff for wind energy comes downedit

After revising solar tariffs, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has ordered a midterm revision of tariff for wind energy. The Commission has revised tariff for wind power projects to Rs 3.74 per unit, which will be in force till March 31, 2018. This is a reduction from the Rs 4.50 per unit fixed in February 2015. The 2015 revision took the tariff up from Rs 4.20 per unit.
