Kerala to get 131 new charging stations for electric vehiclesedit

In order to encourage electric vehicles and reduce carbon emission, the central government has given sanction for setting up 2,636 charging stations in 62 cities across 24 states including Kerala and union territories under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) India scheme. As part of the scheme, Kerala will get 131 charging stations in Kochi, Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode.

Giving a major impetus to electric vehicle (EV) mobility the government has approved installation of 2,600 EV charging stations in 62 cities under FAME II. Tamil Nadu will get 256 such charging stations while the union territory of Puducherry will get 10. Maharashtra tops the number of charging points with 317 followed by Andhra Pradesh with 266.

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider EVI Technologies (EVIT) on Monday said it has inked a pact with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) for setting up battery swapping and charging stations. As part of the 10-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the two entities, EVIT would install charging infrastructure at 5,000 locations of BSNL across the country, covering major cities.
