OPINION: Mega switch needed from fossil fuels to hybrid and Electricedit

The experiments of Delhi and Beijing to allow vehicular movement on odd-even dates to bring down pollution levels are steps in the right direction, but only that they are temporary measures.  As the number of automobiles goes up, and they have been going up exponentially, the impact of the odd-even rule gets negated. This year automobiles sales worldwide are forecast at 81.6 million and there is no stopping that growth.

Govt does a U-turn, proposes hybrid car subsidy in Indiaedit

The department of heavy industries has asked the expenditure finance committee (EFC) for a subsidy of ₹13 crore to promote hybrid cars, indicating a shift from the government’s earlier refusal to offer subsidies on such vehicles. In a meeting with the committee on 23 August for the second phase of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid vehicles (FAME) scheme, the department sought incentives for potential buyers of 10,000 hybrid cars fitted with lithium-ion batteries of 0.5-2 kilowatt hour (kWh).

The Eco-Life trial run was flagged off by Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Shri. Kailash Gahlot in the presence of Ms. Varsha Joshi, Secretary Transport and Power, Govt. of NCT Delhi and Mr. Nishant Arya, Executive Director,JBM Group and other dignatories. The company claims, Eco-Life, a Zero Emission Vehicle to save around 1000 equivalent tons of carbon dioxide and 350,000 liters of diesel over 10 years of operation.

SK Innovation plans $1 billion EV battery plant in USedit

South Korea’s SK Innovation plans to spend 1.14 trillion won ($1.01 billion) on building an electric vehicle battery plant in the United States, the company said on Monday. The plant will break ground in early 2019 and its production will start from 2022, SK Innovation said in a statement.
