Why India lags behind in electric vehicle revolutionedit
On January 30, 2019, the Government of India reduced the customs duty on Electric Vehicles (EVs) that are imported in completely knocked down or semi knocked down state from 15-30% to 10-15%. This, the Centre hopes, will make it more attractive to ship greener vehicles into the country than those run on fossil fuels, and also encourage companies to assemble EVs in India.

While the deadline for Phase 1 of the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) scheme, initiated by the department of heavy industry (DHI), will expire on March 31, 2019, BMTC’s move to induct 80 e-buses has been delayed after transport minister DC Thammanna insisted they be purchased and not leased.

Tesla’s electric vehicle dominance is about to have ‘serious competition,’ Morgan Stanley saysedit
Tesla’s domination of the electric vehicle market is “unsustainable” and will soon be disrupted by start-up Rivian, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said Monday. Jonas, whose thoughts on electric autos are widely followed on Wall Street, expects Rivian will be “the next serious competition from a ‘clean sheet’ start-up with access to talent & capital focused on the fastest growing segments of pickup trucks & SUVs.” He estimates that Tesla makes about 80 percent of the U.S. EV market, capturing as much as 90 percent of U.S. electric vehicle revenues.
