In Nov last year, the Supreme Court had asked Punjab to look at Haryana’s efforts to check stubble burning. The state offers an incentive of Rs 1,000 per acre to farmers adopting non-burning practices, Rs 4,000 per acre for direct sowing of rice (DSR), and Rs 1 lakh for panchayats that fall in “red zone” but achieve a “zero burning”.
