Over two decades ago, Prema Sagar sat at the Park Hotel at Connaught Place, on the brink of her journey in PR. From running a printing business, Sagar moved to PR and Park Hotels was one of the first three clients for Genesis PR, all serviced by just three people that made up the company.

In December 2005, Burson-Marsteller acquired Genesis Public Relations, one of the first such acquisitions in the PR space in India. While there are still a few large independent PR firms in India,  the era of international takeover might just be over, Sagar says, “ It’s going to be difficult to acquire now, if you do, look at the cultural fit first”.

Shrey Khetarpal to join as Netflix APAC Regional PR Campaign Manager, includes India campaignsedit

Shrey Khetarpal, currently WPP’s APAC communications lead for Ford Motor Company in APAC, is set to join as ‘Regional PR campaign manager – Asia Pacific’, Netflix. Khetarpal, will start work in January 2018, after a very successful decade long stint at Genesis Burson-Marsteller, which also saw him lead the brand and consumer marketing practice for New Delhi.

34 year old Khetarpal’s role at Netflix will also see him oversee India campaigns. He will be based in Singapore.

According to news reports, Netflix has 4.2 million suscribers in India,way behind rival Hotstar which has over 60 million suscribers. At Rs. 500 per month. Netflix is also the most expensive streaming service in India, a price sensitive market.

eBay India’s Girish Huria to take over as president, Ketchum Samparkedit

Former eBay India communications lead, Girish Huria, is set to join Ketchum Sampark as the firm’s president, from Monday, 13th of November, 2017. The move takes place after Flipkart bought out eBay India in April this year. Huria is expected to replace Ajay Sharma, the current president of Ketchum Sampark.

An experienced PR and corporate communications professional, Huria was earlier COO of Avian Media. A formal announcement by Ketchum Sampark, regarding Huria’s appointment, is expected next week.

The Omnicom group, which owns Ketchum, acquired majority stake in Sampark in 2011, one of the last big international acquisitions  of an Indian PR firm, till Denstu Aegis Network bought Perfect Relations in September 2016.

Aditya Kshirsagar is India product PR lead at OnePlusedit

Former journalist and marketing head of NFN Labs, Aditya Kshirsagar, has taken over as the product PR lead for mobile handset maker, OnePlus in India. Kshirsagar, who is a post graduate in Journalism from Madras University and a post grauduate in Intellectual Property Right Management  ( IPRM), has spent 6 years in PR after a stint as a journalist.

He is also one of the Godrej PRmoment India 3030 winners for 2017, making him one of the youngest product PR leads in the country. The Chinese handset maker, OnePlus is expected to launch its latest flagship product OnePlus 5T in November this year for the India market.

Prasidha Menon is Uber’s head of communcations for India and South Asiaedit

Prasidha Menon has taken over as head of communications at Uber for India and South Asia, starting October 1st, 2017. Menon, who joined Uber India as product PR lead 15 months ago, was acting head of PR  for 4 months before being confirmed for the top spot. Menon reports to Amy Kunrojpanya, Uber APAC’s director of public policy and communications.

In her new role, Menon who will be based in Gurgaon, has taken charge of the communications mandate for the brand in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, and joined the leadership team at Uber.

I joined ‘The PRactice’ in 2007 but it seems like yesterday. It’s hard to believe it has been ten years already!

When I joined The PRactice, I was the mother of a three-year-old toddler; today he is a teenager and now I have a younger daughter as well.
