SmartE aims to raise up to $20 million to fund next round of expansionedit

The country’s largest electric vehicle fleet operator SmartE plans to raise around USD 20 million to expand its operations to around 20 major cities across the country over the next four years, a top company official said. The Gurugram-based firm, which currently operates a fleet of around 1,000 electric three-wheelers primarily in Delhi/NCR region, aims to have a fleet of around 1 lakh electric vehicles by 2022-end to cater to expected demand across the country.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday advised government officials on introducing electric vehicles in the state to prevent pollution and to maintain the quality of air. “Electric vehicles would be introduced in the state to eradicate pollution. The partnership of public and private sector is very important,” Naidu said at the District Collectors’ conference. Stressing on the creation and implementation of the several government schemes, Naidu said, “Just introducing good schemes are not good enough. Satisfaction among people should be at the same level. It is our duty to identify the errors beforehand. If all government branches work together, the satisfaction among people would definitely be great.”

Developers will begin building a lithium battery project in Morowali, on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, on January 11, Coordinating Maritime Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Friday. The $4 billion project involves investors from South Korea, Japan and China, Pandjaitan told reporters, without naming the companies involved or providing further details on the project. “Looking at its resources, Indonesia will become the main player in lithium batteries,” Pandjaitan told reporters, referring to forecasts for surging demand for batteries for electric vehicles.
