Fortum India and Business Sweden launch EV innovation challengeedit

Fortum India, part of the Finland-based clean energy company, and Business Sweden, the Swedish Trade and Invest Council, today launched its innovation challenge, Unnati Change & Drive Innovation challenge. This challenge aims to accelerate electrification of three wheelers in India through jointly developing a battery swap system specially tailored for light electric vehicles (LEVs) in the country. The partners said that taking LEV battery swapping to the next level requires designing digital infrastructure and developing hardware to support a sustainable business model.

Soon, charge your car under flyoversedit

The first public charging stations for electric cars may come up in parking lots under flyovers. Mayor Firhad Hakim on Monday proposed installation of charging stations to CESC Ltd and suggested that it could use the space under flyovers. Though electric vehicles (EVs) are still low in number in Kolkata, they may increase dramatically over the next three to five years since most auto manufacturers are expected to introduce electric cars and the Centre may offer incentives for car owners to make the switch from petrol and diesel vehicles to EVs.

BEST plans to co-own 80 electric busesedit

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking might jointly own 80 electric buses with private operators. BEST will have a 60% stake in the ownership, while private companies will have 40%. BEST has decided to procure 80 electric buses, 40 air-conditioned and 40 non-AC buses. The procurement will be done under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles scheme of the Department of Heavy Industries. The scheme was started to provide an impetus to vehicles running on alternative fuel.

MoU signed on electric vehicle policy for three citiesedit

The state government has signed an MoU with World Resources Institute (WRI), India, on Monday to implement an electric vehicle (EV) policy, and value capture financing policy framework for Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The MoU was signed during the stakeholder consultation workshop on EV policy and way forward for the Kerala Metropolitan Transport Authority (KMTA), inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Mascot Hotel.

The government is all set to begin its pilot project on electric mobility in the city. Once the Assembly passes the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) Bill, the city will be adopted as an e-mobility zone so as to familiarise the public on the e-mobility aspects and usage and to set up initial demonstration hubs.

Fortum India plans to install 720 electric vehicle charging facilities by 2020edit

Fortum India, the local arm of Finland-based energy company, plans to install 720 facilities for charging of electric vehicles by 2020 in seven cities of India. The company currently operates 30 charging points in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.“By December 2018 we will have 50 charging points in total,” Awadhesh Kumar Jha, vice president – Charging & Drive and Sustainability at the company said.
